    About the Convert Image tool

You download an image and it turns out to be a WebP that your old editing software or a government upload form refuses to accept. Or you have a folder of heavy PNG screenshots that would be a fraction of the size as WebP. Convert Image solves both problems: pick the target format and convert as many files as you like.

The converter accepts any image your browser can display, including JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP, and outputs JPG, PNG or WebP. When converting a transparent image to JPG, transparent areas become white, because JPG does not support transparency. Everything happens on your device for speed and privacy.

    Frequently asked questions

    Which format should I use?

JPG for photographs, PNG for screenshots, logos and images that need transparency, and WebP when you want the smallest files for the web.

Why did the transparent background turn white?

JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white. Choose PNG or WebP to keep transparency.

Can I convert HEIC or TIFF files?

Only if your browser can open them. Safari can read HEIC; most other browsers cannot. TIFF support is limited in all browsers.

Will an animated GIF stay animated?

No. Only the first frame is converted, because JPG, PNG and canvas-based WebP output are still images.
