About the Watermark PDF tool
A watermark tells everyone how a document should be treated before they read a single line. “DRAFT” stops people quoting figures that are not final, “CONFIDENTIAL” reminds readers not to forward it, and a company or photographer name discourages others from passing your work off as their own.
Watermark PDF places your text in the centre of every page with the size, colour, transparency and angle you choose. A semi-transparent diagonal watermark is the classic choice: clearly visible, yet the content underneath stays readable. The watermark becomes part of the page content, so it appears in every PDF viewer and when printed.

Frequently asked questions
Can the watermark be removed?
The watermark is drawn into the page content, so it cannot be switched off like a comment. A determined person with editing software could still remove it, so for highly sensitive files combine watermarks with access control.
Can I use an image or logo as a watermark?
This tool adds text watermarks. Text is lighter, sharper at any size, and works well for most purposes.
Which characters can I use?
Latin letters, numbers and common punctuation work with the built-in PDF font. Characters from scripts such as Arabic, Urdu or Chinese are not supported by standard PDF fonts.
Will the watermark hide my text?
Not at the default 25% opacity. Lower the opacity further for a subtler effect.
